Rovaniemi city centre filled with free family-friendly activities on Sunday 4 October – parts of Rovakatu and Pekankatu closed to motor traffic

The event offers free activities and experiences for people of all ages from 12 noon to 4 pm. The day begins at noon with an animal demonstration parade, which starts in front of Osviitta on Rovakatu and continues via Pekankatu to Lordin aukio square. Participants can join the parade dressed as an animal or simply as themselves.

Before the parade, from 10 am to noon, Osviitta on the pedestrian street will host a sign-making workshop and face painting.

Activities for the whole family

Throughout the day, the stage at Lordin aukio will feature music, dance and other entertainment. The parade reception and samba celebration will begin at approximately 12.20 pm. Performers will include young dancers from Siepakat and Starline Dance and the Maailman vahvin pupu children's music band.

A flea market and outdoor market for residents will be held on Rovakatu from 12 noon to 4 pm. The sales space is free and does not need to be reserved in advance. Participants can bring their own table, clothes rack, blanket or mat.

Visitors can also have their bicycles serviced and try out a cycling skills course on Rovakatu. On Pekankatu, there will be children's football from 12.30 to 4 pm.

On the Koskikatu pedestrian street, visitors can explore green experiments and create street art. During the day, participants can learn about a lichen roof and a pocket meadow, and work together to create a dream wildflower meadow.

The city's climate tent will provide information about repairing and recycling, as well as adventure maps for children and families. There will also be 100 free 24-hour Linkkari bus passes available.

Traffic arrangements on Sunday 4 October

The event will affect traffic in the city centre. Rovakatu will be closed to vehicle traffic between Ainonkatu and Toripuistikko from 10 am to 6 pm. Pekankatu will also be closed between Maakuntakatu and Rovakatu from 10 am to 6 pm.

The dead-end section of Maakuntakatu next to Sampokeskus will be closed during the parade, approximately from 12 noon to 12.30 pm. Cars parked in the event area must be moved by 9.30 am on Sunday at the latest.


The event is organised by the City of Rovaniemi's climate projects together with its partners. The event is part of the climate-themed week of the Carbon Neutral Rovaniemi project, taking place from 4 to 8 October 2026.
