This year's berry harvest looks promising in many areas. The cloudberry season is currently underway, and blueberries are also ripe for picking. Later in the season, lingonberries usually ripen from late August onwards, followed by cranberries, which are typically ready to pick from late September. Cranberries are at their sweetest after the first frosts.

Successful Mushroom Picking Starts with Identification
Rovaniemi's forests are home to dozens of edible mushroom species. The amount of mushrooms varies depending on the weather, and the best picking spots can change from year to year. Rainy weather creates good growing conditions, so a good time to head into the forest is after rainfall, once the ground and mushrooms have had time to dry a little.
The most important rule of mushroom picking is simple: only collect mushrooms that you can identify with certainty. Finland is home to more than 2,000 mushroom species, around 200 of which are edible.

You don't need much equipment for a successful berry or mushroom picking trip. Before heading into the forest, make sure you have at least the following:
