Neustrelitz

Basic information

is a town situated in North-East Germany that dates back to the eighteenth century. The town acts as the capital of Mecklenburg–Strelitz, and has a population of approximately 22,000 people. Of the town’s area, 56 % is forest/parks, with 13 % waterways. The town is partly located within the National Park region.

Culturally, Neustrelitz is a very active town that hosts a number of events and festivals.

Neustrelitz has one of Germany’s space research centres.

Industry

Neustrelitz is a traffic meeting point and transportation is important for this town. In addition, the town has some metal and forestry industry, printing houses and tourism.

Friendship town activities

The friendship town agreement between Neustrelitz and Rovaniemi dates back to 1966. Activities have included visits by civil servants and elected officials, as well as cultural exchange, although much less than with Kassel.
