Cadillac
Basic information
The town of Cadillac is situated in the United States of America in the State of Michigan. The town has a population of approximately 10,000 inhabitants, and it is the administrative centre for Wexford County. In the commercial region, the population is approximately 65,000.
Cadillac has two large lakes and is surrounded by plenty of forests. The founding of the town of Cadillac is related to tree felling, and the town’s first settlers came from Sweden and Finland.
Industry
Nowadays, Cadillac’s main industry is tourism. Activities for summer visitors include sailing, fishing, cycling and golf. In the autumn, the main tourism products are hunting and tourism based on ruska (the period of the period with an especially vibrant array of autumnal colours). In the wintertime, the tourists engage in cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoe hiking and snowmobiling. The North American Snowmobile Festival is held in Cadillac each year.
Cadillac’s industry is also on the increase. Industry is mainly concentrated on the machinery and equipment industry, e.g. boat construction, manufacturing of vehicle parts and other equipment.
Friendship town activities
Rovaniemi and Cadillac signed the friendship town agreement in 1983. In practice, there have been no related activities. The Mayor of the Town of Cadillac visited Rovaniemi in 1988 and the Chairman of the Town Council of Rovaniemi has visited Cadillac once.
Cadillac also has Mölnlycke in Sweden as its friendship town.
