For now, health centres will not make appointments for non-urgent matters, as the resources are needed for dealing with urgent matters. If they need to cancel appointments already made, they will inform you.
Only contact emergency health care in matters that require urgent attention.
Oral health care
Non-urgent dental appointments will be cancelled between 23 March and 13 April 2020. Urgent cases will be treated in the normal manner. If you need urgent dental care, call the oral health care service for an assessment of the need for treatment and the location.
The telephone number for the central oral health care service is +358 (0)16 322 4630, and the opening hours are Mon-Thu 8:00-15:30 and Friday 8:00-15:00. Due to the coronavirus situation, we do not serve customers at the reception desk, only over the telephone.
Child welfare clinics
In Rovaniemi, child welfare clinics’ Perheeksi family counselling groups and the group meetings of 6-month-old babies have been cancelled for the time being due to the coronavirus situation.
As of Wednesday 18 March, Rovaniemi schools will provide distance education. In accordance with the Government decision issued on 20 March, the city will provide classroom education to pupils with special needs and to pupils in grades 1-3. Schools use Wilma for practical communication and advice.
Early childhood education and care
The activities of the City of Rovaniemi units of early childhood education and care and pre-primary education given at these units will continue as usual, in accordance with the Government instructions. All children that can be cared for at home, should stay at home. The city will refund the child-care fees if the child does not need day care.
All the facilities of youth services are closed. Youth services continues their work digitally and by meeting young people where they gather across Rovaniemi. You can contact youth workers by phone, WhatsApp, and private message on Facebook and Instagram.
Rehabilitation work, social rehabilitation, day-time activities at Erkkilänkuja, work activities for mentally handicapped people, and work activities under the Social Welfare Act are suspended as of 18 March. Otherwise, social services will continue to operate. If they need to, customers should primarily contact their own social worker or the service advice and guidance helpline. For the time being, Rovaniemi public transport, Linkkari, operates as usual. All scheduled services are operated, and all payment methods (Waltti card, cash, and debit card) are accepted on the buses.
Information and instructions on how to prevent viral infections on when travelling with Linkkari:
- We hope you don't travel if you are sick
- When travelling, follow the instructions for good hand hygiene, coughing and sneezing
- Avoid touching surfaces such as handrails, grip handles and stop buttons with your bare hands. It is best to wear gloves
- Enhanced cleaning measures are in place and all contact surfaces on the buses are cleaned daily with a disinfectant
Leisure and culture
The indoor swimming pools, sports facilities, libraries, theatres, museums and other cultural venues in the city are closed. Mobile libraries do not operate either.
For the time being, the city continues to maintain ski tracks. Remember the THL instructions on safe distances and hygiene when outdoors, and especially the quarantine instructions.

In veterinary care, we will only treat urgent cases. Vaccinations without appointments have been suspended.
