Public Transport

Local bus lines 1–10 operate in and around the city centre within zone A. Line 14 runs from the city centre to Muurola in zone B.

Bus 8 runs between Rovaniemi railway station, the centre of the city and the Arctic Circle.

You can buy a single, day, or season ticket in several ways:

  • Waltti mobile app: Buy tickets, plan your route, and see your bus in real time. Tickets are valid immediately after purchase. You can also buy a ticket for a friend or family member when travelling together.

  • Contactless payment: Pay directly on the bus using a debit/credit card or mobile device. You can pay for one person at a time. The system uses price caps for 60 minutes and 24 hours, and the fare is the same for all age groups.

Other options:

  • Buy 24-hour tickets at the Osviitta Service Point (See more below)
  • Use the Waltti ticket machine at Shopping Center Rinteenkulma (Koskikatu 25). The ticket machine is located in the second-floor corridor of the shopping center and is available during the it's opening hours.
  • Buy single tickets in cash directly from the driver on the bus

Osviitta is located at Koskikatu 19, 96200 Rovaniemi. The entrance is at the corner of Koskikatu and Rovakatu.

You can buy Waltti travel cards, top up your card, or ask for help at the Osviitta Service Point. They also assist with:

  • Questions about public transport
  • Waltti online store
  • Lost travel cards

A 3€ service fee is charged for topping up a Waltti card. A 7€ handling fee is charged, for example, when transferring the balance from a lost card to a new one.

Parking

There are approximately 6,100 parking spaces in Rovaniemi’s city centre:

  • About 3,600 in private parking lots
  • Around 1,000 in public parking facilities
  • Approximately 1,500 on-street parking spaces
  • You usually have to pay for parking in the city centre.

Rovaniemi has only one parking fee zone. This means that all paid parking spots have the same fee:

  • €2.20 per hour

Payment times:
Monday–Friday from 8:00 to 18:00
Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00

 You can pay for parking either at a ticket machine or by using a mobile payment app.

 

 Parking Ticket Machines

 There are about 30 parking ticket machines in the city centre. Some accept cash or debit cards. 

If you pay at a machine, it will print a ticket. Place the ticket clearly visible on your car’s windshield. 

A machine ticket is valid for:

  • All paid on-street parking spots in the city centre
  • Some city-managed parking areas

When using a mobile app, you don’t need to place anything on the windshield. Always check the correct area code and payment system in the app before starting your session. 

Exceptions

The parking fees mentioned above do not apply everywhere. For example, they are not valid in the following areas:

  • Rovaniemi Airport
  • Railway Station

Motorcycles must follow the same rules as cars.

  • No parking disc needed, but time limits apply.
  • Do not park on sidewalks or pedestrian/cycle paths.
  • Even bicycles and mopeds must not block traffic routes.
Paying Parking Fees for Motorcycles and Mopeds

If paying at a machine:

  • Take both the receipt and a note slip
  • Place the note slip visibly on the vehicle
  • Keep the receipt yourself

If the note slip is missing and you get a fine, you can appeal by submitting the receipt to the Osviitta Service Point or using the online appeal form.

Each vehicle must be paid for individually, even if parked in the same space.

It is not allowed to park or stop a motor vehicle on the pedestrian street – unless you are doing delivery work and it is clearly allowed by a traffic sign. 

Note: A moped is also a motor vehicle, so parking it on the pedestrian street is not allowed.
