Households are responsible for organizing their own waste collection and sorting. This section offers information on local waste services, including how to manage household waste, sort recyclables correctly, and who to contact for help, as well as environmental protection and control.

Waste Management

In the Rovaniemi area, Napapiirin Residuum Oy is responsible for:

Organizing waste management for household recyclable materials and hazardous waste
Final disposal of non-recyclable waste
Providing sorting guidance and public information

Waste Collection

All properties in Rovaniemi must be part of an organized waste collection system. There are two types of systems:

municipal waste collection arranged by the city
collection organized by property owners.
Permanent and holiday homes in areas covered by municipal waste collection must make an agreement with Napapiirin Residuum Oy. Businesses can also use the service by separate agreement. Waste collection fees are based on the current municipal tariff and the selected service level.
