Library Services

The library is meant for everyone. The library personnel will help and guide you in using the library and answer your questions on different subjects. The library is a free-of-charge service.

In the library, you can borrow books, magazines, music, videos, games and items, and

  • use the library’s computers and other equipment,
  • attend events like Language Café, spend time and meet people,
  • use the library’s facilities, such as reading and meeting rooms.

The library has books and other material in different languages. You can seek books in your own language from the web library. Books can also be ordered from the Multilingual Library.

In order to borrow materials, you need a valid library card. The other services can be used without a library card.

You can acquire your library card and the personal PIN code from your nearest library. The library will provide you with a card for borrowing materials in Rovaniemi as well as all the other municipal libraries in Lapland.

When collecting the library card, bring an identification, passport or, in exceptional circumstances, another identification card provided by the authorities. You cannot obtain a library card without a personal visit to the library. A child needs an application filled by his/her guardian for his/her library card.

The library hosts events for all age groups. Events organised by the library or in the library are free of charge. The library also has exhibition spaces that can be booked. Some of the exhibition spaces are free.

All the libraries have computers you can use free of charge. You can also print, copy and scan in all libraries. There is a charge for printing and copying. Scanning to a memory stick or e-mail is free of charge.

You can use the library’s facilities freely. All libraries have tables and chairs that you can use freely for work or leisure. Some libraries offer the possibility of booking a room, for example, for a meeting. The main library also has a music room for playing instruments, such as the piano.

The city of Rovaniemi also has a mobile library. If you live far away from a library, there may be a mobile library stop near your home. The mobile library has a schedule for visiting the stops. (See quick links above)

The library has books and other material in different languages. You can seek books in your own language from the web library. Books can also be ordered from the Multilingual Library.

The library also offers e-materials and resources, like e-books and audiobooks and other streaming based services, such as, a movie service, a classical music service and a magazine service.

The city library of Rovaniemi is a part of Lapin kirjasto, a library union in Lapland. It means that you can use your library card in every public library in Lapland.
