Simerock was born in the backyard of a house at Kolpeneentie, Rovaniemi in 2002 amid a minus-25-degree Celsius temperature. Local bands like Sub Humanus, Sirkuslinnut, Yhteiskunnan Ystävät?, Bad Feeling, Sethery and some big names like Apulanta performed in the voluntarily organised little show that eventually saw an audience of more than thousand visitors. And the legend lived on. The heart of Ounaspaviljonki and its environs is set to throb with open air rock music as Lapland’s most popular music fest, Simerock, is staged in this picturesque suburban Rovaniemi on August 8-9. Music aficionados are expected to flock in thousands in this capital of Lapland during the traditional band show which last year drew as many as 18,300 visitors from across Finland.
